Vertical Continuous casting Machine
Casting vertically has certain inherent technical advantages over the now
much more popular horizontal casting processes. The symmetry of cooling
ensures a uniform and predictable crystal growth pattern and uniform axial
loading on the freshly solidified shell as it is pulse withdrawn from the
die. On tube or hollow section casting the process has particular merit as
it eliminates the 'end-of-run spear and therefore an acceptable product is
produced to the end of the cast. This latter advantage is important when
casting precious metals.
